Road Trip!
First things first...

Twenty six comments on my Cake Finale post? Wheeee! I'm in blogger-heaven. I'd make you all a cake, if I could. But I can't, as just the thought of anything involving Crisco, powdered sugar, or eggs is making me a bit disgusted right now. So you'll all just have to know how much I LOVE all your sweet comments.

Also...

I have hardly read, nor commented, on any blogs this week. I have not forgotten any of you! I'm not ignoring you, just trying to come down from the cake blitz...I was actually sleeping so badly Sunday night (tossing, moaning, grinding my teeth) that my husband had to wake me up and ask me if I was okay.

And do you know what my nightmare was about? That there was a huge traffic jam on the interstate, and each and every person in the line of cars had a cake with them that I had to finish decorating before the traffic jam could be cleared up. So, um, I'm slightly neurotic. But I think you may have known that already.

One more thing...

Three people have tagged me this week, and I'll get to them soon!

And now to the good stuff...

ROAD TRIP!! The hubby, my mom, and I are going to Dallas, TX to see the Dixie Chicks tomorrow night.

It's been a long wait...first, the St. Louis show in August was cancelled. Then, the day after I received my tickets for Des Moines in September in the mail, that show was cancelled (and my money refunded). So the only choice left was Dallas, which is about a seven hour drive from here. But the Chicks are totally worth it. I saw them several years ago, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. And that was even BEFORE I knew they were liberals.

The only thing I have to say about the Dixie Chicks / George Bush "scandal" is WHO CARES? I love their music. It SPEAKS to me. And I myself am not a Dubya fan, so all the better, I say! Just about every celebrity I can think of speaks openly about their Democratic / liberal leanings, and just because a band made one off the cuff remark about Dubya does not mean they are un-patriotic.

I saw some previews for their documentary, and there was an older man who said, "I'm all for freedom of speech, just not out in public!", or something to that effect. Um, yeah. Mmm-kay. Boycott their concerts...more beer for me.

Anyway, I always like a road trip. So along with my cowboy hat, boots, and cleavage-baring top (I mean, if you're going to be LIBERAL and all, you might as well just throw caution to the wind, right?), I'll be packing my favorite traveling music, designed to drive my fellow passengers, specifically my husband, insane.

Some of my top traveling / sing-along tunes (click links for lyrics!)

1. Callin' Baton Rouge - Garth Brooks. I know every word, and I sing it loud. Repeatedly.

2. I Want A Hippopotomus For Christmas - Gayla Peevey. This is THE most annoying, stuck-in-your-head song EVER. I loooove it.

3. Dancin' Queen - ABBA. Just makes me happy. I love ABBA. Because I'm a geek.

4. Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt. I really enjoy a good sad song. And this one is just PAINFUL to listen to. I prefer to listen to it as loud as it will go and sing in a very melodramatic voice, with accompanying melodramatic hand gestures. TOTALLY pisses my husband off.

5. Buzz Buzz - My favorite gem from children's artist Laurie Berkner.

6. Eighteen Wheels and A Dozen Roses - Kathy Mattea. Is there a BETTER song to listen to while you flash truckers?

7. Tiny Dancer - Elton John. And also every other classic Elton John song. Love him. Hold me closer, Tony Danza...

8. Suds In The Bucket - Sara Evans.

9. My collection of tequila songs: "Tequila Talkin' (Lonestar), Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo (Tracy Byrd), Jose Cuervo (Shelly West), Margaritaville (Jimmy Buffett), Straight Tequila Night (John Anderson), Stays in Mexico (Toby Keith), Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off (Joe Nichols), Tequila Sunrise (Eagles), That Tequila (Allen Ross, a local favorite).

10. Who Says You Can't Go Home - Bon Jovi

11. Last Cigarette - Bon Jovi

12. Manana - Jimmy Buffett

13. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen. We make the rockin' world go round.

14. Honky Tonk Women - Rolling Stones.

15. The Eagles - Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2.

16. Sin Wagon, There's Your Trouble, and every other Dixie Chicks Song ever recorded.

17. Charles In Charge (Theme song) - The Blanks (Ted's band from "Scrubs"...need I say more?!?! Listen to it here...they crack me UP)

18. I may also throw in a little Bee Gee's or Barry Manilow music if my husband is not irritated enough with my obnoxious singing, hand motions, and constant control of the radio (which is my RIGHT as the passenger, don't you think?).

19. And my absolute favorite holiday song ever, sung by the Dixie Chicks on "Another Rosie Christmas", but originally done by Robert Earl Keen. I like the Chicks version better, but this is all I could find...it has the lyrics AND plays the song. So if you're going to click on any links here, make it this one.

See ya'll after the concert...many pictures to come! Yee-haw!

Oh, Stacey! I can just see that CD and its "Stacey's Driving Songs" label. HEE HEE! You might have created a new category since I last flipped through your collection - "Stacey's Driving Everyone Crazy Songs" I probably have a tape from back in the day that's called "Stacey's Driving Songs" or "Stacey's Happy Songs" I would copy the tape, but I wouldn't rename it. It was still your mix, so I'd give it the same name. Some people probably thought I stole them or something. Have fun, and I agree with Mrs. S! I need pictures! It's not something I can picture in my head!

Hope you have a great time! I'm not a country music kinda girl, but I do enjoy the Dixie Chicks. It's the only country stuff in my cd collection! And I agree with you - WHO CARES what they said or think, they are allowed to just as much as anyone else. Okay, so just thinking about you going makes me jealous. Can't wait to hear all about it!

I hope you had a great time! I thought they were fantastic. I think it's so odd though, that while they were cancelling shows in the States they were adding them up here. Youse sure take your politics seriously!

I'm not a country music lover, but I do enjoy a good road trip with good music! My husband & I made the trek out to Graceland years a few years ago (en route to his parents in Mobile, Alabama, coming from Toronto - not like we set out to just see Elvis' old smelly airplane), but I made him listen to Elvis' top 300 songs for hours on end... just to get into it. Hell, I'm not even a fan... but we were so close to his house, why not stop in for a visit?!

Anyhow, have a great trip!
