THIS ONE'S DEDICATED TO MRS. S
*DISCLAIMER* I was all happy with Blogger for letting me post pictures, and now it's getting some sort of sick revenge by not letting me put breaks between my paragraphs. So good luck trying to read this - whip out your freaking reading glasses.
I've been telling you all for quite a while now that I decorate cakes (and sometimes make scrapbooks) to generate a little extra spending cash.
A few months back, my husband decided to let me start a "cake fund". Any money I make on cakes or scrapbooks goes into my little account, and I also must buy supplies from there. However, the most I've accumulated in there is $78, which also happened to be the day I got an $80 speeding ticket.
This whole cake thing got started back in my childhood. My Granny always decorated our family birthday cakes, and has amassed a huge collection of Wilton cake pans over the years. I remember spending HOURS poring over those Wilton cake decorating books, and wanting in the worst way to be able to make those pretty icing roses.
I messed around with it through the years, making cakes here and there with Granny's help. But when I was on maternity leave with G, I signed up for a cake decorating class with Granny at a local craft store. I loved it, so I ended up taking two more. I still can't make the roses, but I make a damn fine apple blossom.
So, because I'm so freaking excited that Blogger is in the mood to let me put up pictures, some cakes I've made, for your viewing pleasure! And because, you know, it's fun to be a show off now and then.
Oh, and by the way, thanks for all the sweet comments yesterday...I will be adding pictures to the birthday post this weekend, so come back to check them out!
And also? Silly Hily, I firmly planted my behind on the couch tonight and watched Grey's Anatomy...love it! Aren't you proud of me? Now I can participate in all the water cooler discussions with the cool chicks.
So, without further ado: The Cakes (okay, some of the cakes)

The first, and last, wedding cake I ever made. Made for a very trusting childhood friend. The planning for this cake made me sweat bullets for a month.
It did not collapse when cut.
Whew.
*sigh*

OMG, those cakes are freakin amazing. I cannot even put regular chocolate frosting on a cake without completely destroying it. Kudos!
Oh, you're just mean.
All I've got around here is banana loaf - so doesn't count, especially compared to all that gorgeous icing *sighs heavily*
You SURE one of those wouldn't survive the mail?
I so want you to make me that tan cake, that is beautiful (but not too pretty it can't be eaten).
WOW! I love your cake skills!!! My almost 4 year old would die for that Thomas cake, and I love, love LOVE the wedding cake! Job well done! Very nice, and delicious.....
DUDE! You have mad cake skills. I'm mega impressed (not that that means a lot, actually it would mean nothing if you only saw the cake I made Liz for her baby shower b/c it turned out so, so bad).
And YAY! I'm so glad I got you hooked on Grey's Anatomy. It really is so so good.
And I'm pretty sure I won't make it to Blogher next year. Maybe the next. Who knows. But Liz and I are so fun. Really, we are. We would pull you out of that shell for sure. Esp. Liz. cause she be ca-razy.
Thanks for the link, btw lol I totally forgot my manners in the cake-induced craze brought on by your post.
Mmm... Cake...
wow! wow! wow! you should really continue with the cake thing. wow! :)
thanks for the comment, by the way, it seems munchkin 2 is very stubborn, like her father.
I keep coming back to look at the cakes. I'm like an addict. It's pathetic.
*sigh*
Stacey,
Those are beautiful cakes. Wouldn't it be fun if we could all have a piece of wonderful cake with icing with the lovely pregnant Mrs. S right now...Yum.
I am not much of a cook or a baker. But I did make some festive cakes for my kids when they were little. Luke (Frema's) husband was born on Valentine's Day so I made heart-shaped cakes out of a square cake and a round cake cut in two. The two round pieces were attached to the square one to form a heart. I have made a ghost cake with flamimg eyes for Halloween, a bunny cake with toasted coconut fur, and a Pac-man cake. Ahh, these are good memories. Here's to cake with icing.
WOW! You are impressive!! With each cake picture, my WOW got a tad louder. That wedding cake? Woke the kids. Nice work!
;0)
Thank you all for the compliments...I'm blushing!
And Lucy, CALL me about those cakes! The cake fund, she is low.
Where were pics of all the beautiful cakes you made for me???? I want to order one just so I can eat it! YUM WHY can't I remember my password? Blogger hates me!
Beautiful cakes. What flavors/fillings did you use for the wedding cake?
