Dixie Chicks!!!
My husband and I made the trip to Dallas alone as my mom had to cancel at the last minute. She doesn't realize that she left the brunt of the "musical trauma" for my poor husband. I might have been nicer with my "soundtrack" choices had she been there.

We had an uneventful, junk food filled trip from Missouri until about 30 miles out from Dallas. For that is when the highway went five-lane and we were hitting 5:00 traffic in a very large city.

It is also when my husband, who was quite a calm, cool, and overly confident driver in his younger days, began getting sweaty and snapping at me when I did things like, oh, say, POINT OUT WHICH EXIT WE SHOULD BE TAKING, or LOOK IN HIS GENERAL DIRECTION, and, um, maybe when I locked all the car doors, hit my imaginary passenger brake, and ferociously gripped the Oh-Shit handle by my window (isn't that what they're called?). But whatever. He WAS over-reacting a teensy bit, which is what made ME nervous.

See? The miles of traffic as far as the eye can see? This is why I am not a city girl.

And THIS is apparently my penance for going to see a band brazen enough to make disparaging comments about our "president". Gah. Honestly:

We made it to the hotel in time to take showers and get all gussied up. Here I am, ready to go, but lacking my usual concert uniform of "cleavage baring top". I am fat, my friends. You don't even want to know how long I tried on clothes trying to find something cute to wear, only to end up in a black shirt and jeans. And also, I don't know why my top lip disappeared in this picture, because I really do have one. And it's cute.

I refused to have an entire body shot taken, so here is the rest of my outfit: Horribly Painful, But Stylish, High Heeled Cowboy Boots:

We took a shuttle from the hotel to the arena and realized we were an hour early, so we walked a few blocks to have dinner at The World's Largest Hooters. Is that Texas for you, or what?

Say what you will about the Chicks, but the girls can still sell out a concert...

...okay, mostly to gray-haired couples, groups of lesbians, and MANY, MANY GAY MEN, but hey! Sold out is sold out! It was definitely a different crowd from the concert we attended five years ago, which consisted mostly of scantily dressed groups of women aged 18-24:

BEER! HOLDERS!

This is what they played on the big-screen shortly before coming out on stage. The girls have balls - security was tightened all evening long due to continuing death threats:

Eeeee! EEEEEE! I may have wept a little when the Chicks started singing. And maybe wet my pants a little. AWESOME concert. But their style has definitely changed since I saw them last...more slow songs, a lot more attitude, a lot less "flash" to their show.

A good time was had by all. He is drunk. I am drunker.
High heeled cowboy boots can bite me. Yes, I walked the streets of Dallas in my sock feet after the concert. The funny thing is, I walked from Hooters to the arena like this BEFORE the concert, and a scalper actually tried to buy them from us. We didn't sell my boots, but we did sell our extra ticket. Yay for scalpers!

And then, to finish off our exciting evening, we had a wild ride back to the hotel with a crrrazzzy Indian cab driver. Oh Holy God. I would have taken pictures, but I was sobering up by then and slightly afraid for my life. Yee-HAW (I swear, that's the last time)!

I'm glad you had a good time out here in Big D. You were actually very close to my house, from the sign picture. You really do get used to the traffic after a while...I sit in that every day. Anyway, glad you enjoyed yourself.

That sounds awesome! I would love to see the Chicks in concert. The last performance I saw was Liz Phair two and a half years ago.
