THE HAND:
you're going to have to forgive the lack of capitals in this post...my ability to type is slowly returning, but reaching out my pinky finger to press 'shift' is still torture.
my husband took the hand dressing off yesterday, which was an hour long procedure involving peroxide, scissors, and tweezers. i will spare you the gruesome details.
i have heard from many people who've had carpal tunnel surgery, and they tell me, 'oh, it's instant relief! you'll feel so much better!' my question is WHEN??? no one told me about the pain involved. i think i'm on cake decorating hiatus for a month or two, not to mention hair-fixing, hair-washing, laundry folding, and dish washing hiatus. ouch ouch ouch!
a little side note about the actual surgery...i was fully awake and only received the local anesthetic. it was slightly painful, and extremely disturbing to be able to feel the tugging and pulling and to hear the grinding and snipping...my regards to all of you who have endured c-sections.
there was also the moment where the surgeon, after 10 minutes of digging around in my hand, said 'where did this COME from?? this is NOT working!" apparently she had the wrong sized tool, but that is NOT something you want to hear during surgery.
also, for those of you wondering, the mark on my wrist was to make sure they operated on the correct hand. it's still there, too. and YES, i've tried to wash it off!
THE WEATHER:
it is certainly a mess here in southern missouri! however, the ice is absolutely gorgeous to look at. we got very lucky at our house and only lost power for a few hours saturday night. most of our family in the surrounding areas have been without power and water for several days now, but they are stocked up on supplies and doing well.
it's like a circle of destruction all around our house, and i don't know why we got so lucky, but i'm thankful. and garrett's preschool is one of the few open today, which is just icing on the cake.
THE BABY:
luckily, our ob/gyn office was open yesterday for my first prenatal appointment. unfortunately, it was only the doctor and the receptionist who were there (no nurses), and we all know that it's the support staff that controls the world. so my routine workup and lab work did not get done (i'll go back in two weeks), and i didn't get a picture or CD of the baby on ultrasound, but i DID get to have a quick ultrasound!
i guess because i've already had two healthy, normal pregnancies, i've been extra worried that this pregnancy must be bound to cause me trouble. the odds just seem greater, for some reason.
my mind is now at ease, for at least the next few days, that everything is going just as it should. i'm ten weeks along, and our newest addition is currently one inch long, has a perfectly beating heart, and looks like a tiny teddy bear, with a big ol' head and tiny little arms and legs. there is just nothing like getting to see your child for the first time. that is one experience that could never lose it's thrill.
see you tomorrow!

I'm glad to hear that you guys are doing ok with all the crazy weather up there. I hope your hand starts to feel better real soon.
I know the ultrasound was so wonderful. No matter how many kids you have or how many ultrasounds you have, it is still such an amazing experience.
Glad the pregnancy is going well!
Oh that's crazy with the comment during surgery. I was awake for both of my c-sections and it seriously freaked me out knowing my insides were being sliced and opened up to the world. (How's that for a pleasant afternoon thought?)
How exciting to see the baby! That's awesome! Glad you both are doing well.
That's awful about the surgery. I would have been scared out of my mind! That is so cool about being able to see the baby for the first time. I can't wait until it's my turn! Hope you heal quickly.
You are brave,I hope you heal quickly and have some extra help around the house. Bless you Stacey
Glad that you and baby are well!
Here's hoping you come out from under that blanket of ice soon - stay warm!
