I did NOT mean to upset anyone! I've always considered myself a very tolerant person, and I don't have a problem with anyone of another race, religion, or culture. I find the differences in all people very fascinating. I'm confident that anyone who knows me personally would assure you of that.
So I guess it just pisses me off when I see people NOT being tolerant of others, such as when Mexico was booing the U.S. I would have been just as horrified to see the U.S. booing Switzerland. Bad fucking manners. It's ugly, it's rude, and it's childish. And I thought it was a very big deal. I felt attacked, sitting there in my pajamas and eating ice cream in the home that we work hard to pay for and maintain. I pay my bills. I obey the law. I take care of my children. I served as an educator. I try to see the best in everyone. And I felt personally attacked, for NOTHING I had done.
My comments about having all my food labels in two languages, and ESL aides in the classroom was meant to convey that in my day-to-day life as an American in the midwest, I see our area going above and beyond to make the growing Mexican culture in our area feel comfortable and at home. I see companies, schools, and businesses doing the best they can to incorporate immigrants into "our" culture, and then the U.S. is booed at a beauty pageant?
I'm not sure who all of the anonymous commenters on my last post were and I'm not here to defend them, but I am assuming they live in my area, which IS actually becoming quite full of illegal immigrant workers. I'm not going to discuss the politics of that issue, but I will say that the issue is a hot one for a lot of people in this particular area because it does cause a strain on our local schools and economy. Most people do not have a problem with Mexicans, or a problem with any immigrant LEGALLY living in our country, state, or cities...the problem lies in the ILLEGAL factor.
I also absolutely realize that ALL OF MEXICO was not sitting in that audience booing, but I also maintain that the people who had the opportunity to attend that event ARE representatives of the country of Mexico. You don't just walk in off the street to attend the Miss Universe pageant...put your good manners in your pockets before you go in, kids. I don't dislike all Mexicans. However, I do dislike any person sitting in the audience acting like a dumbass.
I agree that a certain someone is the majority of the problem with our international relations, but that does not mean I should be booed while taking my kids to the park, taking my family on vacation, or sitting on my ass in front of the television. I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM. EITHER TIME.
On to lighter notes...
THE BABY:
My gag reflex is in ultra-high gear, which makes brushing my teeth, coughing, cooking, and yelling at the children a joy. Because you would absolutely listen to a woman who screams, "Garrett Alexander, leave YOUR SISTER ALONE RIGHT NOW!!!! *GAG* wouldn't you? When my eyes water, I mean BUSINESS, people.
GARRETT:
Well, still no news on Nick Newman. He's apparently still dead. I say 'apparently' because my finely-tuned Soap Opera Sixth Sense, which I've spent YEARS perfecting, tells me he is NOT DEAD. He WILL be back. And I think that he is on some weird island with Drucilla, and they will make one huge return together. All I know is it better be this week, because 1. May sweeps is almost over, and 2. Nick is hot.
THE CAKE "BUSINESS":
I just finished my Wilton final cake class, which focuses on wedding and tiered cakes. I'm soooo happy with how this turned out!!
I had two huge cake weeks in a row, and I can still smell phantom buttercream. I'm actually kind of bored, and ready for some more orders.
IN CONCLUSION:
Congratulations if you made it to the end of this post. Now that I'm getting in the groove of summertime and relaxation, I am hoping for less "update" posts, and planning for more thoughtful and entertaining posts. So really, stay tuned!

how is it possible tht you are already in your third trimester? seriously, dude, w.t.f.
Ooh that was a good entry! I missed out on all the fun of the last ones, but the topic is a hot button one for sure. (See me wiggling my way out of making any real comments at all?)
Your belly looks great, and I can't believe you are that far along already. I'm so glad to hear your health is good. Ten pounds? You rock my world! I was something like 25 with one and 21 with the other. (Gaining less weight than predicted really does feel like a huge victory, doesn't it?!)
Your kids look great, and so does that last cake. Wowee!!!
Hi... so I am the 2nd anonymous... I know that not all mexicans are bad... but the all the ones Ive ever dealt with SUCKED. They are a bunch of drunk, women beating, cheating liars. Period. Im sorry for saying anything to make anyone upset.. but the fact is, if they wouldnt of boo-ed us, the last post never would have been posted.
Next...
Stacey, you rock. you are such a great cake maker and I got orders coming baby. I will call you soon.
Love the wedding cake.. that is awesome!
Love ya!
Your children have inherited your cake decorating abilities...they're better than I am!! I love all of the pictures of them too---the one of Garrett in his promotion gear is sweet. My son's is in 2 weeks and we're excited. :)
Glad you're back and looking forward to more posts.
P.S. I didn't vote for him either. Either time.
That was crammed with good info :) Your baby belly looks great...your kids are freakin' adorable...while I miss the baby moving thing, I don't miss the fingernails/knife poking my bladder :)
Looking forward to more posts....
That cake? Totally awesome. Your 3rd trimester baby belly? WOW! Way to go! And your kids are adorable.
I love reading your update posts, can't wait to read more!
You are such the professional! The wedding cake you did looks fabulous! Way to go!
Your baby belly is cute butI personally think you should post a full picture of yourself. I think you look adorable in general when you are pregnant!
Sorry girl, Garrett and Laura escaping? There has to be a story there!
Carey
I cannot even begin to comment on all of that. Glad you are doing good. Er. well. Whatever.
I suppose the way some people feel about Mexicans in your neck of the woods is they way some people feel about natives here. I have a post about the reaction of the parents at school council finding out that the school's new vice principal is aborigional. Let me tell you it was not pretty.
I can't believe you are already in the thrid trimester. That is the fastest pregnancy ever. At least from my end, I'm sure it's not on yours!
I agree that those who booed Miss USA at the pageant were out of line. I also agree that they are representing the country of Mexico, as you stated here. However, we don't provide ESL aides or bilingual advertising for the country of Mexico. We provide those services for American citizens of Mexican origin. Also, I don't think that most businesses are catering to the Mexican population out of the goodness of their hearts. They're doing it to encourage more business.
People talk about illegal immigrants taking jobs, but they can only work if they're hired. I'd be more angry with businesses that hire people who aren't eligible to work in the United States. Crack down on them, and there'd be no benefit to living here illegally.
To end this on a less controversial note, that wedding cake is gorgeous.
Well damn! Ok, I agree with you on the immigration thing. I have not problem with someone wanting to come to America to make a better life for themselves. Just do it the right way...legally. It's really not that hard.
10 pounds!!!??? I am so jealous and you look great!
Garrett and Laura are gonna be following in your cake-making footsteps, no doubt! I love that last pic of them together at the preschool promotion ceremony! They look so grown up!
ESL aides are not hired only for "American citizens of Mexican origin." My husband works at a school where 90% of the population is hispanic and they are not here legally. They are not American citizens. Also, they're not only here because employers are hiring them. They're here because we cater to them. We hire the ESL aides, we provide free breakfast and lunch for their children (even during the summer when school is not in session!!!!!), many of our signs are posted in Spanish as well as English, and we offer lots more special programs for them. Their life here is a heck of a lot better than their life in Mexico. I don't blame them for being here---it's better for them to be here. I blame their country. Mexico needs to do something about this problem so we aren't taking the burden.
Frema, you make some excellent points...I guess a lot of businesses ARE thinking of more business. And I agree that we should be angry with the companies that HIRE the illegal workers (and I am angry about that).
I also tend to agree with a lot of points from anonymous, right above me here. Schools HAVE to hire ESL aides BECAUSE we have to educate these children. I believe we ARE catering to this population, and that's a lot of the reason they keep on coming - it IS better here!
This may not be a popular opinion, but I'll say it anyway...if you come to America to live, please learn to speak English. Speak your native language in your homes, etc., but please learn enough English to function in the community you are living in!!! If I choose to live in France, then I will need to speak enough French to get me through the day. I realize that America was founded on the belief that ALL are welcome, and we are a 'melting pot'...cool! Great! But I still believe that we need one, unified language to be able to communicate effectively in our country.
1.) I agree.
2.) Love the belly.
3.) Your kids look like they've inherited your creative and artistic side. Good for them.
4.) Did you match their outfits on purpose for his program? Too cute!
5.) 3rd trimester? Really? Holy shit! When did that happen?
6.) The escaping incident? Yeah, cough it up girl, we need that story.
7.) Glad you enjoyed the class. The cake is beautiful.
8.) I do not miss one single bit the knife in the bladder feeling. That sucks.
I think I covered everything.
Whew.
Just to let you know on Y&R Nick Newman is NOT dead. He was in the middle of a contract dispute, so he was MIA for a few weeks. The good news is he signed a new 5 year contract. Y&R has also recently taken auditions for a nursing type person to help Nick recover. I found out also this info on Soap opera spoiler websites. ENJOY!!!
Woooooo! Stephanie, you just made my day. I just knew my sixth sense was right!
Ummmmm...I'm not commenting on the Hispanic debate, but your kids are beautiful and so funny and that cake is amazing!
10 lbs? Gosh! I've probably gained that much over Thanksgiving! :)
