Ack! My computer time...it is no more. Also gone missing: Time to shower, time to eat food that requires a fork, and time to get my daily Young And The Restless fix (thank GOD for VCR's). Sometimes, there is not even time to pee, so it's a good thing I no longer have an 8 pound baby sitting on my bladder.
Laura and Garrett are on their second week of preschool. Despite the promised drama of Laura's first day, it actually went off without a hitch. She rocked it:
And Garrett? REALLY rocked it...look at the little ladies man, feelin' all suave about buttering up the teacher:
They even pretended like they kind of loved each other before Laura departed for her First Day:
I had these fantasies about how I'd really be able to get some shit DONE while one kid was at preschool every day. Yeah, well, not so much. You see, our "schedule" (I use that term verrrrry loosely) goes something like this:
9 am: Wake up, drooling, on couch with sleeping baby stuffed in the crook of my very stiff arm. Garrett is standing over me begging for food.
9:02 am: Baby screaming to be nursed.
9:03 am: Daddy has mercy on me and fixes Garrett breakfast.
9:06 am: Daddy heads down to his office, running late, and I grab two poptarts and settle in to nurse Delaney. Realize I forgot to go to the bathroom first, so I manage to pee while keeping baby latched on...is that an amazing party trick, or what?
9:10 am: Laura wakes up whining and crying.
9:11 am: Peel a banana for Laura's breakfast.
10:00 am: Finish nursing baby and put her in the swing. Then attempt to:
load dishwasher,
start laundry,
pump my breasts because Delaney slept through half of her feeding,
wash my pumping supplies,
sort out fall clothes for three children,
write thank you notes,
check email,
feel guilty about telling Garrett to "just wait a few more minutes" as he begs me to come play,
change diapers,
make appointments and phone calls,
put in Dora videos,
hand out snacks,
fill up cups,
make a grocery list,
sort through paperwork,
and make endless lists of things I need to do.
11 am: Realize it's nearing school time and that I really should get dressed and make the kids some lunch.
11:15 am: Make lunch. Kids take two bites. Have my contacts in and clean underwear on when Delaney cries to be fed again. Don't have time for an hour long nursing session. Give her a bottle and pump because it's faster.
11:45 am: Mix up some instant breakfast drink for my lunch, then get G and L ready for the trip to school.
11:58 am: Finish getting myself ready to leave the house.
11:59 am: Delaney poops through her diaper and clothes.
12:07 pm: Delaney is re-dressed. Attempt, for the third time, to GET MYSELF READY.
12:09 pm: Laura needs something for show and tell.
12:15 pm: TIME TO GO! Put my hair in a bun and pop in a breath mint.
12:22 pm: Tell G and L for the sixteenth time to PLEASE GET YOUR SHOES ON NOWWWW.
12:25 pm: Head out.
12:30 pm: Drop G or L off at school (Garrett goes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Laura goes Tuesday and Thursdays...would you like to bet WHEN I will drop off a child on the wrong day?)
12:45 pm: Grocery store.
1:30 pm: Feed Delaney again, while playing "restaurant" with Garrett.
2:15 pm: Pee. Finally.
2:16 pm: Attempt to finish all the shit I started this morning. See above.
3:15 pm: Go pick up G or L from preschool.
Dear Lord, we're only half through the day. At bedtime, around midnight, I sum up what I accomplished during the day, and the answer is:
I loaded the dishwasher. Yay me.
So now, because it may be several days before I talk to you all again, let me tell you a few more things...
See what my lovely eldest daughter did two days before school started? I totally knew there was trouble when Garrett yelled something about scissors and Laura stared at me blankly through her Bono glasses when I asked her what had happened:
And also, let me introduce you to my new baby:
No, no, not THAT one.
THIS ONE. My first real bag, which is being used, for the moment, as my "Cool, Hip Mom Diaper Bag". She's a Vera Bradley and I love her. Is Erica the best gift-giver ever, or what?

Oh you poor thing, it'll get better I promise. I love the diaper bag, I have a purse and backpack like that only there not Vera Bradley :-(
Everyone is really too cute... BUT - OH MY GOD - am I supposed to send Emma with FLOWERS on her first day of preschool????
Good Lord girl!! Just a suggestion, but sometime in between 10 am and 11 am (since you're clearly not doing anything) maybe you should add: drink pint of vodka. Might help.
That "haircut" is nothing compared to what my oldest did. She was 4 at the time and had such pretty long hair. It was a bit longer than Laura's. When she was finished cutting it? It was about an inch long ALL OVER. Good times.
I'm exhausted reading about your day. I have NO right to whine about being tired and not getting things done with ONE child.
Love the new baby. Gorgeous.
So is the baby that poops through diapers and clothes :)
Is it not enough that we buy Christmas and year end presents for teachers...now we need to send first day of school gifts?
I can't not believe how long Laura's hair is, Saoirse's is no where near the collar of her shirt.
And both babies...quite beautiful!
Okay, fellow teachers...help me out here! YES, we must send first day gifts! Okay, not really, but I always do because I'm crazy like that.
I never send anything expensive (those were cheapie vases and a four dollar bunch of walmart flowers), but I always send a little something. Makes the teachers first day a little more special, what with the crying preschoolers and all.
And with the way I'm always fearful of the way MY children will behave, a little bribery never hurt anyone! ;)
I think your teacher gift giving idea is great! And I love your new baby! And good lord, why is pee'ing the one thing we women put off for so long? I do that too, and I never know why.
The kids are cute and adorable! And man, I've been waiting on the edge of my seat for your update. Glad to hear things are going 'normal'! Till next time...
Love the bag! Love it!
Yes, I am the best gift giver ever! :) Well hope you get to pee today. It doesn't get any better as they get older. Now the dog follows me to the bathroom. Just when I am finally no longer interesting to the other 3, the damn dog has to participate!
That picture of Laura in her Bono glasses is too funny. I love the look. :)
I was actually going to put "yes-a cheap gift is always nice on the first day" from a fellow teacher-good job MOM! But you said it yourself.;)
Your life is *back to normal*! And I love it. It wears me out but I keep coming back for more.
LOVE.THE.BAG. Great job Erica! ;)
Okay, I must admit that I'm paying close attention here to what life is like with three kids. Seeing those first pics of Delaney (the bath towel one, OMG) got me hungry for a little baby nibble, and I'd like to know if I could make it through this motherhood gig with my sanity intact. You seem to doing a FABULOUS job. Teacher gifts AND not peeing until mid-afternoon? You win at motherhood! Ding Ding Ding!
;o)
Thank you for the 1st day advice!!! If you venture back to my blog, you'll be rewarded with phots of Emma & Her Gift.
And she was the ONLY kid that brought one! Extra thanks for that!
